About Dr. Alemu
Twenty years of helping children, families, and adults understand themselves
Dr. Yared Alemu is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than two decades of experience evaluating and treating children, adolescents, adults, and families. He earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Auburn University in 2004 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of Georgia in 2005. He holds a BA in Psychology from Georgetown University and an MA in Humanistic Psychology from the State University of West Georgia. Dr. Alemu serves as Adjunct Faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta and has has published multiple peer-reviewed works focused on trauma and AI. Over 20 years he has completed thousands of psychological tests, supervised psychology trainees, and managed a large behavioral health agency. His clinical training also included a practicum at the Emory School of Medicine (2001–2003) and a doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the Durham VA Medical Center (2004).
Dr. Alemu founded Northlight Assessment because he saw too many families and adults wait months for an evaluation, pay thousands of dollars, and still leave without a clear answer or a usable plan. Every Northlight evaluation is conducted personally by Dr. Alemu and ends with specific recommendations a parent can take to a school meeting, or an adult can take to a doctor, college, or employer, the next day.
My approach
A good evaluation does three things. It answers the question you came with. It finds the things you did not know to ask about. And it leaves you with a plan. I write every report for two readers at once: the professional who will use it to make decisions, and the parent, or the adult client, who needs to understand themselves or their child better. I take the second reader just as seriously as the first.
Start with a free 15-minute call to talk through what you are seeing and whether an evaluation is the right next step.
